Furniture Measuring

A smooth furniture delivery and setup comes down to three essential steps.

Confirm the Measurements

Double-check product dimensions ahead of time to prevent any surprises on delivery day.

Plan Your Room Layout

Visualize where each piece will go by comparing your room’s measurements with the furniture’s specifications.

Prepare the Delivery Path

Identify the best route into your home and ensure it’s clear for the delivery team to move items safely.

Understand the Dimensions

Before placing an order, review the dimensions listed on the product page to ensure the furniture will fit into your home.

Take note of width (W), depth (D), height (H), and for certain seating pieces.

These details will help you visualize the piece in your space and avoid delivery surprises.

Measuring Wardrobe

  • Height (H): From floor to the tallest point.
  • Depth (D): From the back edge to the front edge.
  • Width (W): From one side to the other.

Measuring Chest of Drawers

  • Height (H): From the floor to the highest point.
  • Depth (D): From the back edge to the front edge.
  • Width (W): From one front corner to the other.

Consider Your Space

After noting the exact measurements of your new furniture, the next step is to plan how it will fit within your room.

Use these tips to create a layout that’s both functional and visually balanced:

Plan the Placement

Leave around 18–24 inches of space between pieces to allow for comfortable movement.

Keep in mind potential obstructions like power outlets, air vents, or light switches.

Map It Out

Use masking tape to outline the furniture’s footprint on your floor.

This helps you visualize its position and ensures the scale feels right in your space.

Leave a Little Extra Room

Add an extra 1–2 inches to your measurements to make placement easier and avoid tight fits during delivery.

Measure and Prepare for Delivery

Before delivery day, plan and clear the route from the entry point to where your furniture will be placed.

Take note of any tight spaces, sharp turns, or obstacles like stair rails or balconies.

For safety reasons, delivery teams cannot lift items above chest height, so ensuring a clear, accessible path is essential.

Below are tips for measuring some of the most challenging areas to navigate with large items:

Doorways

  • Measure the height (H), width (W), and diagonal (D) for each doorway along the route.
  • Check if the furniture can pass straight through or if it needs to be tilted.
  • For seating pieces, ensure the entryway width is greater than the furniture’s depth, diagonal depth, or height.
  • Be mindful of door handles, hinges, or other features that might limit space.

Hallways

  • Measure both the height and width of each hallway.
  • Account for lights, décor, sprinklers, or moldings that could reduce clearance.
  • In narrow spaces, measure the total clearance length (C) between walls to determine if large items can be moved horizontally.
  • For hallways with angles or turns, measure from corner to opposite wall to confirm there’s room to pivot the item.

Stairways

  • Measure ceiling height (H) from both the bottom and top steps.
  • For landings, record the width (W), depth (D), and ceiling height.
  • Measure diagonals from steps and landings for tilt clearance.
  • Include handrails and banisters in your width calculations.

Elevators

  • Measure from the doorway opening to the interior height (H), width (W), depth (D), and diagonal depth (DD).
  • Check for any obstructions like control panels or handrails that may affect how items are positioned during delivery.

Tips for Delivery Day

Clear the Path

Make sure there’s an unobstructed route from the entrance to the final placement spot.

Move rugs, furniture, and any other items that might block the way.

Protect Your Home

Safeguard your floors, walls, and delicate fixtures from possible bumps or scratches.

Secure any low-hanging lights or fragile décor.

Secure Your Pets

For everyone’s safety, keep pets in another room or a secure space before the delivery team arrives.
